Free Hauling of Compostable Materials for Soil Building

Fall, 2019:  The Gulf Islands Food Co-op (GIFC) has now started our “Hauling of Compostable Materials for Soil Building” project on the islands of Pender, Mayne, and Galiano, plus Saturna to come!

We are very grateful that this project is funded by a Community Works Fund grant, via the CRD (our Capital Regional District).  We recognize that transporting input materials like manure is costly and time consuming on our small islands, and sometimes producers just don’t have the right kind of truck available.

This is why the GIFC created a project that can potentially pay the cost of hauling soil amending materials to your farm or garden! (subject to remaining grant funds being available).

This includes compostable materials such as manure, leaves, other plant waste, food waste, old hay or straw, and more!

Therefore, we invite you to email your name, island, and the soil building materials you are interested in OR have available, to the main GIFC email at info@gulfislandsfoodco-op.org

Then we can pass along your information to the project Coordinators on each island: Pender – Ben Dunsmuir, Mayne – Amber Albrecht, Galiano – Barry New, and Saturna – Fiona MacRaild.

Just let us know what you need or have available, and depending on producer demand, we may even be able to extend this project further!
