Double Book Launch – William Deverell & David Boyd (Pender)
November 4, 2017 @ 4:00 pm
Come hear 2 prominent Gulf Island author launch their latest books: environmental writer David Boyd – “The Rights of Nature: A Legal Revolution That Could Save the World”, and crime fiction writer William Deverell – “Whipped”
Re: The Rights of Nature (from David Boyd): “I came across a new constitution that Ecuador has created in which they actually included a whole section on the rights of what they call Pachamama, or Mother Earth,”… It seemed to be one of those potentially game-changing ideas that transforms not only the legal system but our entire culture in terms of how we perceive ourselves vis-à-vis the rest of the world and how we behave vis-à-vis the rest of the world.”
Whipped, the latest novel in Deverell’s Arthur Beauchamp series, is “a political satire involving a cabinet minister, a dominatrix, and a $50 million slander suit against Beauchamp’s wife, the Green Party leader. The latest novel from Vancouver writer Dietrich Kalteis, Zero Avenue, is a sharp, gritty story revolving around smuggling, border jumping, gangsters, and punk rock.”
