Education 2023: Seed Libraries & Events
SPRING, 2023: Following up on our 2021-2022 Seed Saving Education and Seed Library supports, the Gulf Islands Food Co-op is happy to begin supporting development of a fourth Seed Library, on little Saturna Island (population 465). This is thanks to confirmed 2023 project funding from a CRD Grant-in-Aid.
Then on Saturday, March 18, 2023, the four Southern Gulf Islands each had Seedy Saturday events or displays. This was for people to donate, receive, and share info about saving and sharing non-GMO heritage seeds, that are best adapted to resiliently grow food in our uniquely challenging island conditions. The Gulf Islands Food Co-op supported the Pender event by offering a seed saving educational display from FarmFolk/CityFolk.
FALL, 2023: Our Co-op is excited to once again offer Hands-On Seed Cleaning and Learning Days (with FarmFolk/CityFolk equipment, on October 14 (Galiano Island) and October 15 and 16 (Pender Island).
In addition, the Co-op is supporting the Saturna Island Seed Library in their offering of a September 30 Seed Cleaning Workshop and October 9 Seed Library Event.
In the meantime, see the links below for more Seed Library info, and also the photos of Saturna’s initial Seed Library gathering, the Pender Seed Library closet at the Pender Library, and the Mayne Seed Library with its happy artistic creators!
